Solo Shapenote Singing?

This is my humble attempt to see if anyone in in the Ruhrgebiet has an interest in joining a group in the area to sing American shapenote hymns from the Sacred Harp hymnal.  I am an Ami living in Germany who would like to start a group in the Bochum-Essen-Dortmund area, and hope to find some singers who can read English and would like to sing old four-part (acappella) hymns from this old southern tunebook. If you are interested in helping me start a Sacred Harp singing group, please contact me at alosaf1 (at) gmail (dot) com.

  1. If you find a location and get a bunch of people together, the Bremen group is willing and able to travel to Bochum for a Kick-Off-Singing.

    Jawoll! Frankfurt ist auch dabei!

  3. Hi Chris. This is Alison. We met in Frankfurt at the workshop. Glad to see you trying this. Keep me posted and I should be able to come over from OWL for a singing.

    • Hi Alison,

It’s great to hear from a “native” shapenote singer! I read about your new arrival on your blog just recently…Congratulations!. Thanks also for your offer to come sing with us if I can get a group going. Wir drücken die Daumen….
